Cappella Mariana is a Czech vocal ensemble that focuses on the performance of music from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries, with an interest in works from the great era of Renaissance vocal polyphony from the Italian, Flemish and English repertoires, as well as the rediscovery and promotion of forgotten treasures of Bohemian polyphony. Its concerts are enthusiastically received by the public, as much for the beauty and rarity of the repertoires chosen as for the high quality of the performers' remarkable expressiveness.
Cappella Mariana is directed by Vojtěch Semerád, a graduate choral conductor of Charles University in Prague and the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, a soloist and member of such renowned ensembles as the Huelgas Ensemble, Vox Luminis and Les Correspondances. He is involved in researching and transmitting the treasures of Renaissance music and Gregorian chant and draws his inspiration from European archives.
