Time of Transition: Andreas Brantelid & Concerto Copenhagen

07 August/19h00 Norway / Stavanger

A concert that suggests the development from Baroque music to Viennese Classicism – and all the way to Romanticism.

The Danish star soloist Andrea Brantelid and Concerto Copenhagen, under the direction of Lars Ulrik Mortensen, will delve into a time when the characteristic features of the Baroque were replaced by new innovations.

The concert showcases a turning point in music history, moving from the Baroque with music by Georg Philipp Telemann, through Bach's son Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, to the "father figure" of Viennese Classical music, Joseph Haydn.
The term "time of transition" is popular in art history when forms of expression change, and it sounds dramatic, but rarely is. However, the development from the stylistic traits of the Baroque, through the Italian/French galant style and the North German empfindsamkeit, to the youthful Sturm und Drang fantasies is fascinating and points not only towards Viennese Classicism but also far into Romanticism.

Together with Brantelid, Concerto Copenhagen will attempt to illustrate the evolution of the time with an orchestra and instruments of the period, as Telemann, Bach's sons, and 'Papa Haydn' would recognize.

In 2021, Concerto Copenhagen released the critically acclaimed album 'Times of Transitions' with Andreas Brantelid.
