Stabat Mater
15 April/21h00 Portugal / Porto
The Italian Baroque dominates the Orchestre Baroque's Easter concert. The Stabat Mater is Pergolesi's best-known work, written shortly before his death aged just 26. It quickly became one of the finest examples of European sacred music literature, inspiring generations of composers to create their own versions of this 13th-century medieval poem about the suffering of Jesus' mother at the crucifixion. The magnificent vocal solos are performed by the internationally acclaimed British countertenor Iestyn Davies, winner of a Grammy and two Gramophone Awards, and the soprano... The first part is filled with Vivaldi's always appealing concertante music.
