Sonate a quattro, Scarlatti - Ensembles Les Récréations
20 October/20h30 France / Plufur
Alessandro Scarlatti is best known for his operas and cantatas. The ensemble Les Récréations presents another aspect of his work. These are 'senzo cimbalo' sonatas, without harpsichord, written for string quartet. Although they prefigure the classical quartet, they are rooted in Renaissance music and the tradition of the viol consort. A sonata by Alessandro Scarlatti's brother Francesco and a transcription of a harpsichord sonata by his son Domenico will complete this programme.
