Pirame & Tisbé, Clarambault - A nocte Temporis
14 October/20h30 France / Tréguier
Although he published compositions for harpsichord and organ, it was his secular cantatas that made Clérambault a major musician of the first half of the 18th century. Originating in Italy in the previous century, the cantata found its way into private salons, where the listener enjoyed the connivance of proximity. The orchestra is therefore reduced to a single singer, continuo and sometimes one or two 'top' instruments, violin or flute. Reinout Van Mechelen and his ensemble present three of the most famous of these cantatas, including Pirame et Tisbé, inspired by Ovid's Metamorphoses and recounting the unhappy love affairs of these two lovers.
