Pierre Gaultier and the birth of opera in Marseille - Concerto Soave
22 March/18h00 France / Marseille
In 1685, Pierre Gaultier obtained permission from Lully to create the first provincial opera, Le Triomphe de la Paix. From then on, opera became a Marseilles institution, the centre of musical and cultural life for an entire region.
Based on instrumental works by Gaultier, Concerto Soave has built a programme around French opera in the late 17th and early 18th centuries. It includes Lully, of course, but also Campra and Mouret, the great opera composers born in our region.
