CONCERT: LA SEDA ILUSTRADA - CAPELLA DE MINISTRERS

27 December 2024/ Spain / Valencia

Soler and Mozart were contemporaries who crossed paths in the various musical circles of central Europe at the end of the XVIIIᵉ century, both becoming emblematic musical figures of their time. The concert programme features Italian arias by Vicent Martín i Soler and a song cycle by Mozart, works of particular intimacy and the galant style that predominated in the bourgeois mindset of the time.

The two composers had much in common, adopting the musical language of their time while transforming and enriching it with their own unique genius and personality. It is no exaggeration to assume that there was a certain rivalry between them during their Viennese period. The music of Martín, nicknamed ‘the Spaniard’, was highly acclaimed throughout Europe in his day. So much so that the Salzburg genius' Don Giovanni explicitly includes a melody from Una cosa rara by the Valencian composer Martín i Soler. This work even sparked a ‘Spanish-style’ fashion for dress in 18thᵉ century Vienna.
