Akademie Versailles is a baroque orchestral workshop for students of bowed string instruments organised by the Collegium Marianum Centre of Historical Arts with the Centre de musique baroque de Versailles (CMBV) and the Prague Conservatory between 27 February and 3 March 2017 at the Prague Conservatory.
The five-day workshop for students of the violin, viola, and cello, will be conducted by the violin virtuoso and conductor Patrick Cohën-Akenine (FR), the artistic director of the well-known Les Folies françoises ensemble who teaches violin at the Charles Munch Conservatoire in Paris and at the École Nationale de Musique in Orsay. During the “Akademie Versailles” students will have a unique opportunity to play on copies of historical instruments from the times of Louis XIV, provided directly by CMBV. The five-day workshop will conclude with a performance at the Prague Conservatory. Chosen participants will receive an offer to participate in the performance of the Collegium Marianum orchestra at the final concert of the Summer Festivities of Early Music international music festival on 7 August 2017 at the Dvořák Hall in Prague, conducted by Patrick Cohën-Akenine. The workshop is a reconstruction of the famous orchestra of Louis XIV Vingt-Quatre Violons du Roy and a continuation of an international educational project of the same name. The project has been aimed especially at students of French Conservatories and the Royal College of Music in London. Since 2010, it has been presented, among others, at Château de Versailles, the Festival of Montpellier, and The BBC Proms. More information can be found here.
