Purcell – Love’s Goddess sure was Blind, Z331
Purcell – Oh that my grief (newly discovered piece)
Purcell – Since God so tender a regard
Purcell – Come ye, sons of art, Z323

Written for the birthday of Queen Mary in 1694 and containing the ebullient duet ‘Sound the trumpet’, Purcell’s ode Come, ye sons of art is one of the composer’s most celebrated works. Drawing on the latest musicological research by Professor Rebecca Herissone at the University of Manchester, this performance presents the premiere of a newly restored and uncorrupted version of the ode, as well as a recently discovered devotional song for two high tenors, performed by Anthony Gregory and Hugo Hymas.

This programme is presented in association with the music department at the University of Manchester. We would like to acknowledge with grateful thanks the assistance of Rebecca Herisonne for her generous advice in the preparation of this programme.

    Tickets: £50 (Gallery - £35)
